Every once in a while, you catch a performance that is absolutely riveting. About a year ago, I caught Ryan Steele's kick-ass performance in the Broadway musical Newsies - his personality leapt off the stage.
I get the impression that Ryan always gives 110%, and I was reminded of this when I recently saw Ryan grace the Broadway stage again with Matilda. It's no wonder that he is also making his silver screen debut this week in Five Dances.
I’m incredibly grateful that Ryan made time in his busy schedule to dance on his mattress with us for #sharethemattress. I invite you to participate in the #sharethemattress project too (learn more here), and read on for some inspiring words from Ryan, a A New Yorker for Dance.

A message from Dance/NYC & Ryan Steele:
We are thrilled to see Broadway performer, Ryan Steele, join Dance/NYC's New Yorkers for Dance campaign. The campaign features personal statements from New Yorkers on why dance matters to the city - to creativity, education, neighborhoods, and the economy.
And, today, Ryan Steele will inspire audiences from all over the world with the triple-release of his New Yorkers for Dance video, his #sharethemattress video, and also the release of Five Dances, a new film by Alan Brown in collaboration with internationally renowned choreographer, and Dance/NYC Advisory Board member, Jonah Bokaer. "Brown has taken five gifted New York dancers, and fashioned a story about Chip (Ryan Steele in his first film role), an extraordinarily talented 18 year-old recently arrived from Kansas who joins a small downtown modern dance company."
