Valentina Kozlova announces the 6th annual International Ballet Competition, with 134 entrants from 20 countries around the world, from Russia to Ecuador, dancing for company contracts, scholarships, and monetary awards. The illustrious panel of judges will be led by Andris Liepa (Russia) with Mikko Nissinen (Finland) as Honorary Chairman, joined by Nina Buisson and Charles Jude (France), Nina Ananiashvili (Georgia), Patricia Aulestia (Mexico), Olga Guardia de Smaok (Panama), Nikolai Tsiskaridze and Sergei Soloviev (Russia), Sun Hee Kim and Jeon Mi Sook (South Korea), Jelko Yuresha (UK), and from the US, Tracy Inman, Joe Lanteri, Terrence Marling, Jennifer Muller, Troy Powell, Margo Sappington, Peter Stark, Martine Van Hamel, and Septime Webre. Classical ballet rounds will be held April 26 & 27; April 28 will feature contemporary dancers and choreography; Finals will take place April 29; and the medalists and prize winners will be announced April 30, 6 PM, followed by a 7 PM Gala Performance featuring medalists joined by special guests from New York City Ballet, Daniel Ulbricht and Erica Pereira dancing the Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux; Washington Ballet's Brooklyn Mack and Kimura Ayano, and others. The Competition is dedicated to the late beloved Violette Verdy, who was active in VKIBC from its beginning six years ago.
