The 2009-10 performance series of New Chamber Ballet will close with June 11 & 12 performances of ballets by company director Miro Magloire, and guest choreographers Emery LeCrone (company member and rising young choreographer), and Constantine Baecher (an American currently dancing with the Royal Danish Ballet).

 

Magloire will premiere a new work to Joseph Haydn's Piano Sonata No. 39, a trio for Elizabeth, Lauren and Victoria.

 

Constantine Baecher, a frequent guest choreographer for New Chamber Ballet, will be represented by Viduity, set to music by Janacek.   Following its premiere, the dance was described by Claudia La Rocco as a "work for four women (that) used an enigmatic language of gesture and authoritative spatial arrangements to create a sophisticated, moving meditation on grief.  Viduity is a ballet made for sinking into, and Mr. Baecher is a welcome new voice."   (The New York Times, September 24, 2007)

 

The program will also see a repeat of Chamber Dances, by company member Emery LeCrone, premiered in the company's April season.   The women's trio is performed to Road Movies for piano and violin by John Adams.   As noted by the choreographer: "When I discovered John Adams's Road Movies, I found it interesting that the composer considered this score his breakthrough in writing chamber music; I felt this made it an appropriate choice for my own first foray into chamber ballet."   Emery is fast becoming a prominent young choreographer on the scene, having recently created ballets for New Chamber Ballet, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Nova Ballet, and Oregon Ballet Theater.

 

Another April 2010 premiere will be repeated in June: In A Simple Black Dress, created by Miro to Pierre Boulez's Anthemes for violin, and danced by Emily SoRelle Adams, who "danced superbly," according to Philip Gardner, and "of course, wore a little black dress and looked delicious."   (Oberon's Grove, April 19, 2010)
