White Light Festival 2016 Dance
Company:
White Light Festival
White Light Festival 2016 features performances by Mark Morris Dance Group, Liz Gerring Dance Company, and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet’s full-evening work Babel(words).
A special focus of this seventh edition of the White Light Festival is Sounds of India, curated by Mark Morris. Sounds of India casts its gaze on artistic expression originating in and inspired by South India and will shed light on the universal nature of India’s artistic heritage and dynamism in performances by classical dance and music artists including Kerala Kalamandalam Kathakali Troupe and Nritygram Dance Ensemble. In addition, Mark Morris Dance Group will perform revivals of two India-inspired solos from early in Morris’ career remade on members of the company, a humorous duet set to a lively Tamil film score, and the world premiere of Pure Dance Items set to music of Terry Riley. Details about White Light Festival dance presentations follow.
Tickets are available online at WhiteLightFestival.org, by calling CenterCharge at 212.721.6500, or at the David Geffen or Alice Tully Hall Box Offices (Broadway and 65th Street). Film screenings are FREE, but reservations are required.
