Us Making Dances, Dances Making Us
Working with an emergent approach to making we will find ways to begin and follow what interests us from there. We will attend to refining our perception to what is present, including our considerable imaginations. Gathering our attention to the physical, behavioral and perceptual experiences emerging from our making we will discover how and where to go next and move towards the creation of ‘worlds’ that, on their own terms, are specific to individual modes of physicality and unique ways of thinking and sensing. For this workshop we will work on solos.
About Julie Mayo
Julie Mayo has been making dance performance works for many years and in NYC since 2011. Mayo was a 2015 New York Live Arts’ Fresh Tracks artist and is presenting her first commission from Gibney Dance this coming October. In NYC her work has been presented at New York Live Arts, Dixon Place, JACK and Movement Research at the Judson Church and nationally at experimental venues Highways Performance Space (Los Angeles), NOHspace (San Francisco), Links Hall (Chicago) and space (Philadelphia). Mayo has taught through programs ClassClassClass, Brooklyn Studios for Dance, Gibney, and in many college and university dance programs.
