Yoshito Sakuraba || The Playground NYC
The Playground NYC
Thursday, 06/16 || 4:00-6:00pm, $6
Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, 280 Broadway, NYC
Entrance 53A Chambers Street
The Playground NYC allows dancers to experience various choreographic styles and ideas, engage with a new community of dancers, and gather resourceful information and inspiration from the array of choreographers involved. In turn, established choreographers are paid for their creative investigations, are given free space to explore new movement with professional dancers, and are provided with the opportunity to establish relationships with new dancers and fellow choreographers.
Sakuraba’s partnering class begins quickly with a lead warmup intended to engage the core and sense of periphery. The majority of the class will be spent executing partnering work (duet, trio, or quartet depending on class size) focusing on connection, fluidity, and innovation, as well as collaboration between Sakuraba and dancers. This will culminate in a long and detailed phrase to tease out and explore the depths of performative dynamics between partners.
