To create Weed Heart, Jill Sigman embarked on extensive research about the plants we call “weeds” and the hidden histories they reveal. Movement improvisation, urban foraging, seed storing, sculpture, community discussions and tea serving have all been part of her process. Weed Heart investigates resilience, toxicity, invisibility and power, and offers a ritual to re-connect us to plants, people and places. Performed by Sigman, vocalist Kristin Norderval and a cast of spontaneous urban plants in an installation of salvaged metal readymades, plus wild edible tastings by forager Marie Viljoen.
Weed Heart was developed in part through support from the Rauschenberg Residency/Robert Rauschenberg Foundation during a residency on Captiva.
