we should call it many things is a sextet that explores the contrast between subtle and dramatic movement palettes. The dancers tangle gently, supporting, lifting, abandoning, and returning to one another. The piece was created in close collaboration with composer Emily Scott who composed a set of repetitive “rounds” in the tradition of the American folk song. Hansen and her dancers will create their own sound score by singing Scott’s rounds live during the performance.

Anneke Hansen’s choreography is virtuosic in its subtlety. Her work has been called “remarkable in nuance, with big ideas nested in small moments” by Dance Source Houston, and has been seen at such venues as St. Mark’s Church and the Flea Theater, and in site-specific performances and intimate salon evenings throughout NYC.

we should call it many things has received funding from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council through the Manhattan Community Arts Fund.
