I enjoy Jordan Matter’s work with dancers because he doesn’t photograph them traditionally-- in costume, onstage, or posed in a studio. He refreshingly portrays moving artists as part of the tapestry of New York City- floating and sizzling with the environment.
“There are dancers among us, just look, ” his pictures shout. Matter honors the excellence in our everyday.
THE DANCE ENTHUSIAST is proud to be the first publication to highlight Dancers Among Us, Jordan Matter’s dance photography. Here he works with the extraordinary artists of The Paul Taylor Company.
Matter says, “In the photographs these dancers are away from the stage, yet they cannot leave dance behind. As they go about their daily routines, they do so as dancers. This speaks to the power of a passionate life; if you’re fully invested in something, it is always with you.”
