A Quiet Longing｜寄兴园记 is a striking dance film directed by Yiran Shu, who also served as the choreographer and performed as the lead dancer. Screened at Cinema Village during the 2025 New York Shorts International Film Festival in October 2025, the film transforms movement, memory, and cultural identity into a deeply cinematic experience. From its opening moments, Shu establishes a dreamlike visual world shaped by the architecture of the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden on Staten Island.

The film follows two women through meeting, friendship, separation, and reunion. Shu’s character moves with the fluidity and restraint of traditional Chinese dance, while the second dancer brings the grounded rhythm and quick musicality of House dance.
