Freeform Review:

An impressive live program by Periapsis Music and Dance, consisting of five world premiere dances to original music played live.  The Company's mission is to present new dances to specially composed music, and they succeeded splendidly with five world premieres by choreographers Rohan Bhargava, Evita Zacharioglou, Da'Von Doane, PeiJu Chien-Pott, and Gabrielle Lamb.  All were set to original scores by artistic director Jonathan Howard Katz and Annie Nikunen, and played by the composers and cellist Jeffrey Zeigler and pianist Melinda Faylor.  The themes of most of the dances centered around relationships, with the dancers uniting at the end, or one exiting, leaving the other alone on stage.  I was especially moved by the last work on the program, "Unbeknownst" by Gabrielle Lamb, who has a very special talent for keeping dancers physically connected in original and interesting moves, helped by a beautiful musical build-up by Jonathan Howard Katz.
