Freeform Review:
Solo exhibition by’ Ruhee Lee’ has dynamic point of view through the fractions of pieces. Especially performing art through two performers’ movements interweaves the fractions of her art pieces with storytelling. Her art pieces interact with performer’s movement creating infinite versatile visions. Hemisphere of crystal clear pieces responds to performer’s movements through their hand-held lanterns. It is beautifully spoken visual language where the space becomes woven with reflections of lights and the audience.
As a storyteller, I observed her creations inspire movements that viewers to choose their own narrative. By moving square pieces, the viewer can actively choose what they want to create and see. When I was experiencing her pieces, pushing and pulling each piece, mirrors our behavior with smartphone reaction. If we dislike we push and if we like we pull it closer. Unlike smartphone’s reaction, her works do not rely on the one-way algorithm, but truly decided by viewer’s own will. While we are sometimes manipulated by a world of digital signals, Lee’s works resonates with the tactile experiences of touching and creating imagination, pure and basic instinct expression.
