Freeform Review:

It's a special pleasure to see Buglisi Dance Theatre, and to enjoy the high quality of dance and dancers.

Buglisi Dance Theatre never disappoints. Jacqulyn Buglisi consistently brings top-tier talent to the stage—many with roots in the Martha Graham Dance Company, where Buglisi herself was a principal dancer. The choreography is always masterfully crafted and visually breathtaking.

Their recent June showcase at the Ailey Citigroup Theater featured two fantastic guest choreographers: Ron DeJesus and company member Lorenzo Pagano. Kudos to Buglisi for giving these dancemakers a platform!

A huge standout was the preview of Buglisi’s new work, "The Wing and the Shell." It felt like total theater—combining dance with live piano and percussion (by Stahv Danker and Eran Fink), stunning slide projections, and spoken narration read by legendary dancer Christine Dakin. Inspired by Peter Laufer’s Dreaming in Turtle, the piece explores a boundary-transcending love between a turtle and a hummingbird.

The full work premieres with vildwerk at City Center in January 2027. Don't miss it—it was another unforgettable evening of world-class dance!
