AUDIENCE REVIEW: Review 2: Dance Film "In Retrospect" by Alicia Steeves

Review 2: Dance Film "In Retrospect" by Alicia Steeves

Company:
Alicia Steeves

Performance Date:

What was your favorite moment(s)? What inspired you?

My favorite moments of the film were the very human and pedestrian moments. The dancing and choreography was beautiful and well executed. It was the human moments of a longing look, a deep breath, a simple gesture, or an emotional embrace that pulled the viewer into the story.

Describe any or all of these elements: music, lighting, the venue.
How did they contribute (or not) to your enjoyment of this performance?

The music, lighting, venue, and costuming was very well thought. The lighting and coloring gave the film a vintage feel which evoked nostalgia and asked the audience to reflect on past emotions. The venue and costuming paired well and told the story. The soft and shiny fabric described love and lightness, while also portraying vulnerability that comes with love. All of the above contributed to the enjoyment of the performance.

Would you like to see this performance / company again?
Would you recommend it to a friend? Why or why not?

I would love to see this performance and more of Alicia's work. I would also recommend her work to others. She puts so much thought, research, and pieces of herself into the work that the audience can't help but feel drawn in to reflect on their own story.
