Dance is physically demanding. It involves extreme flexibility, strength, and repetitive movements for many hours daily. As a result, the most common musculo-skeletal injuries among dancers are overuse injuries.

In this workshop, Dr. Kay will help you understand:
- How to recognize and prevent common overuse injuries
- Cross training, warm-up, and time-off for injury prevention
- The importance of nutrition, sleep, and medical care for career longevity

A Q&A will follow the presentation.

Kumi Dikengil Kay graduated from New York University Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in dance in 2002. After graduation, she danced with Refractions Dance Collective in NYC before becoming certified in Pilates mat and equipment work through Pilates Physical Mind Institute. Dr. Kay returned to graduate school to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Seton Hall University in 2011 and her Orthopedic Clinical Specialty in 2015. Dr. Kay is the physical therapist at the Samuel J Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts, as well as for the dance department of Montclair State University.
