Dear Dance Enthusiasts,

We welcome you to join us for Flamenco Latino’s Más Allá Series this summer.  We will  feature four performances of our Flamenco Gumbo II at the Flamenco Latino Studio Theatre. Then on Aug. 6, 2016, from 2PM to 5PM we will offer a master class for Flamenco and Tap dancers to encounter our singular style with its unique visual and rhythmic signals.

Flamenco Latino was established in 1979 by me, Aurora Reyes, and Basilio Georges, so that we could play and experiment with the ida y vuleta, or,  "round trip" styles. Our brand of Flamenco reflects the Spanish cultural amalgamation of rhythms and melodies found in Latino countries during the 18th century.

Flamenco Gumbo II features musical and movement styles from New Orleans, self-described as the northernmost Caribbean city, incorporated into Flamenco dancing. The concert repertoire is guitar-driven and features the jazz blues of Henry Roeland "Roy" Byrd, better known as Professor Professor Longhair; with the mix of  blues, pop, jazz, rock & roll, zydeco, and boogie boogie of the great Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack, also known as Dr. John;  and blended with traditional New Orleans Second Line parade brass band music.

Flamenco Gumbo II provides an opportunity to explore our New Orleans flavored fusion of Flamenco and Tap with magnificent guest artists.  One of them is Omar Edwards who has performed, taught and toured internationally. Omar stretches the boundaries of the African- American tap tradition with immense poise, strength and charm. Under Baslilio’s and my direction, Omar is joined by the electrifying and envelope-stretching dancer/percussionist Jose Moreno. The group is completed by Guillermo Barrón on percussion, and Danny Rivera on baritone sax.

This summer Flamenco Latino will dance out our fundamental artistic mission of 32 years, and offer a bluesy, NOLA interpretation of el arte flamenco - oh yes, solea, tangos and bulerías will not be left out!
