Freeform Review:

Clymene Aldinger is a woman with a lot to say.  Her dances have a theme, a point of view, and a message.  Her company celebrated its 6th anniversary with performances at New York Live Arts, calling the season "Quiet Rebellion in Technicolor."

The program of engrossing dances opened with "Martha Always Said," which I assume referred to the teachings and personality of Martha Graham.  The six female dancers ran the gamut of emotions, now kind to one another, now catty and nasty, now having fun together, now depressed and humiliated after being scolded.  The dance was a harbinger of all works on the program - emotional and interpersonal.

Clymene Aldinger appeared in her solo "Rockaway Metamorphosis," in which she moved around the stage on the floor with her hands always held behind her back, giving her no help at all.  It was deliberately uncomfortable to watch her struggle, but certainly delivered a study in determination - success against all odds.  It was a study that could inspire different meanings to different viewers.

Aldinger clearly deals with the sisterhood of women in this all-female company - their issues, their struggles, and their relationships.  Her impressive dance and personal backgrounds enable her to express these issues through dance.  She is one to watch.
