AUDIENCE REVIEW: PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK The Musical

PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK The Musical

Company:
Irma Theatricals

Performance Date:
December 18, 2025

Freeform Review:

From the rousing outset of this musical adaptation of Joan Lindsay's novel "Picnic at Hanging Rock" now playing at The Greenwich House Theatre, we feel the exuberance of young girls. As directed by Portia Krieger, this production brings you under the skin of its characters, making you feel as though you know each one intimately. Mayte Natalio choreographed the production with such earthy gusto, you feel no corset could restrain these kids. Two Australians, based in Brooklyn, Greta Gertler Gold and Hilary Bell wrote the galvanizing music and lyrics with the musicians nestled under a staircase that seems to ascend into the wild. While Peter Weir's film of this story is as eerie and as dreamy as the novel, this production  is so visceral you feel sucked into the whirl of emotions.

Not to be missed.
