Freeform Review:
Oh to be young. The dancers of the Joffrey Concert Group, Limón2, and Ballet Hispanico2 gave a performance at the Ailey Citigroup Theater that was overflowing with energy and talent. They are junior companies of three senior companies, but I dare say that most of the dancers of all three junior companies could step into the major companies and do them proud.
Without going dance by dance, I could pick out an excellent performance of an excerpt of José Limón's "Psalm," filled with many of the choreographer's signature movements and expression of community. BH2's showed the versatility of the dancers, who appeared on point in one dance and performing salsa movements in another. The Joffrey Concert Group dazzled in "3114" by director Bradley Shelver—a real tour de force for the full company. A pleasure to see all these young dancers, talented, well-trained, well-rehearsed, having the chance to perform in a major NY theater for dance.
